Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Akira, V for Vendetta and Watchmen are all terrific. If you liked Akira, you might want to check out Katsuhiro Otomo's Domu. I would recommend anything by Yukinobu Hoshino. He does 'hard' sci-fi. I'd especially recommend his 2001 Nig ...

Watchmen, V for Vendetta and Akira are all great. You might enjoy Neil Gaiman's Sandman series, starting with Preludes and Nocturnes, and Brian Vaughan's Y: The Last Man series.

... world of comics has arrived and that they're really liking what they've found. And I think you've got pretty good taste. V for Vendetta is one of my favorites, too! Keep us all posted!

Liked Akira, loved Watchmen (although the tone got to be drag after a while), and haven't read V for Vendetta yet. Its definitely on my TBR list. The first GITS series (Vol 1) is an often-read favorite. I liked the combo of hard sf concepts packed into a dense political, action oriented ...

... upbeat either. Recommended but with a cautionary note: if you want happy endings, these stories will not do it for you. I read Watchmen last year and my succinct review was "Wow!" I am definitely going to have to give V for Vendetta a try. Thanks for the recommendation.

65- V For Vendetta by Alan Moore 5/5 I'm glad I took Watchmen out from the library on a whim, because otherwise I would probably still not have a read a graphic novel. This is excellent, although maybe not quite as good as Watchmen... I think I'll have to give both a re-re-read to be sure. I ...

Going back to earlier posts--I read The Watchmen and V for Vendetta in college, because they were cult favorites that everyone read. They didn't make much of an impression on me, or maybe I wasn't paying attention, because I don't remember a damn thing. The question of romances involving POC ...

... to capture the feel of whichever time period she's working in, but I saw the ending coming a mile off. I plan to start V For Vendetta by Alan Moore and Dave Lloyd on my lunch break.

A friend lent me V For Vendetta yesterday. Horray for graphic novels! I need to remember to bring her the first two volumes of Sandman today.

... don't know about it. It was supposed to be one of the greatest graphic novels ever made, but I enjoyed the characters in V for Vendetta much much more than any of the characters in Watchmen. I think the book was just overhyped to me because it was still good, it's just that I almost felt ...

31/32: We really liked both movie and esp. the book, V for Vendetta but while the Watchman was fine, i didn't think it was ALL that - though i'm sure we'll catch the movie. Again - I bought and enjoyed Promethea - but haven't bought any of the sequels. From Hell is v. good, on some level, ...

I've only read Watchmen (amazing), V for Vendetta (wonderful) and the Sandman Series (by far, my favorite). Good recommendations from you all--I'll have to check them out!

... see it millions of times, and I hated it, but I gave the graphic novel a chance after reading Watchmen, From Hell, and V for Vendetta, and I figured that if everything that I read by him so far had been masterfully written, then I might as well give it a try. Sssh, don't tell anyone Bus, but I didn't like V for Vendetta either, though I did quite enjoy the film. I've read some great Alan Moore (Watchmen is very good), and I've read some poor Alan Moore (for me, League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Black Dossier really didn't work - it's as if he ...

... graphic novels, but my kids are. We found Pride of Baghdad to be powerful and the artwork is beautiful. We also have V for Vendetta and both volumes of Maus. I thought all of these were very well-done. I also liked reading both volumes of Persepolis.

"Watchmen" and V for Vendetta are both great. Alan Moore at his most approachable. Dark Knight Returns is a dark interpretation of Batman. If you're not into capes and tights, check out Maus and Palestine by Joe Sacco. If you can find them, back issues of RAW offer a wonderful ...

Alan Moore distanced himself from the movie of V for Vendetta. Is he at all involved in the Watchmen movie?

I am also currently reading V for Vendetta. Last yr I read Watchmen, and subsequently reserved V for Vendetta at the library. It became available for me, but like Watchmen it's on a waiting list for other readers so I only have a fortnight to read it !

For graphic novels, I'd recommend V for Vendetta by Alan Moore (same guy who wrote Watchmen that LisaMorr recommended in #3). Maus parts 1 and 2 are generally considered "must-reads," if you haven't already read them. And, of course, all of Neil Gaiman's Sandman books are great. Any ...

I love the film adaptation of V for Vendetta, so much so that I haven't bothered reading the graphic novel yet - perhaps I should :)
