Not too much I can say about the fifth volume of Brian Vaughan's Y: The Last Man that hasn't been true of earlier volumes in the series. However, what is somewhat noticeable in this installment is the revving up of that part of the story which involves pure cinematic silliness - here we have a ninja, our first official sex scene, a corny showdown in an abandoned baseball park, flashbacks of teen angst, an all-out girl fight on the Golden Gate Bridge, and monkey feces as a central plot device. Exhausting? You betcha. Effective entertainment? Undeniably so. ( )

Nice continuation with the story of Yorick, one of the last men left on Earth after a mystery illness killed all the men. These collections are short and tend to move quickly, so while they are great, the reader is always left wanting more. ( )

Several story threads open up in this volume. Who is the myterious Doctor M? What is the real secret of the Culper Ring? Did the Amulet of Helene really cause the plague? Will Yorick ever have sex?

One of these quesitons is answered. ( )

Yorick and his allies have finally made it to California. Dr. Mann now as access to the information and tools she needs to try and work out exactly why Yorick is alive and all the other males on the planet are dead.

The female of the species also demonstrates that they are equally capable of war and crime when given the opportunity.

If someone said 'ninja monkeynapper' to you generally, you would probably laugh. Here, it is no laughing matter.
